Historical

Production of this 5 ton vehicle, which became standard in the West German Army, started in 1958. The truck was developed from the MAN ML 4500 A, which was produced form 1940 to 1944. Shelters were produced by amongst others Bauer/Köln, Blumhardt/Wuppertal, Zeppelinwerke/Friedrichshafen and Glas/Dingolfing. More than 20.000 build when production ceased in 1972. The type was replaced in the late 1990´s after approx. forty years of service in the German Bundeswehr. A similar vehicle with single rear wheels was designated 630 L2AE.

We added a fuel tank of 500 liter and changed the tires for 12.00 - 20, a gain of 10 % in speed.

A view off the interior when preparing the truck. We installed a bed above the tanks. 2 fresh water tanks of 100 liter (black) and a fuel tank of 500 liter (red). Used water tank of 70 liter, a gas stove, a fridge, a water heater of 10 liter.

We also installed solar panels on the roof.
